Jaipur tragedy highlights urgent need for road safety reform

Jaipur: The coordination between Jaipur’s administrative officers and civil defense teams is commendable. Collector Jitendra Soni and Police Commissioner Biju George Joseph risked their lives for nearly 15 hours, preventing further explosions.

Their timely actions averted a greater disaster. While the tragedy on NH-48 near Bhankrota shocked the state, it highlights the need for stringent measures to prevent such accidents. The government has formed an SIT, but responsibility lies not only with officials but also with pedestrians and drivers. As former RTO Anil Jain pointed out, carelessness, overspeeding, wrongful overtaking, mobile use, lack of rest, and alcohol are key causes. Let’s learn from this.
