Department of Post is one department whose existence was beginning to be questioned by our generation given that the millennial given the social media revolution that has swept away our tech-savvy youth! But PM Modi completely suffused the department with life and energy and revamped the department in an unprecedented manner.

He infused so much technology in the Department of Post that today it has transformed totally and has got a new lease of life. PM Modi made banking reach the doorstep of the common man in rural areas through the handheld device. We have received feedback from innumerable beneficiaries who say that earlier they had to commute 7 to 8 kms in order to reach a big bank whereas today they can avail all the banking facilities at home. Be it pension money, or salary money, today the postman visits the homes of the beneficiaries deep in the villages of India to enable them to access their money. Today, we have around 6 crore bank accounts in the India Post Payment Bank. Out of these, 4.5 crore bank accounts have reached the doorsteps of the beneficiaries. PM Modi infused banking technology into the vast network of post not just transforming the Department of Post, but also the lives of people!

When Modi visited Japan as CM… - Vivek Bhatt, Journalist

In 2012, when Modiji was the CM, he embarked on this historic visit to Japan with a great delegation accompanying him. It was probably the first time that the Chief Minister of a state was visiting another nation at such a high level.

It was a four-day visit in which the CM visited 4 provinces and was part of 44 programs. One of those days, we booked a bullet train to reach Hamamatsu. While all the delegates were at the station, Modiji stood there in an extremely sombre and observant mood. He glanced through the signboard, listened carefully to the announcements, looked at the digital display for train schedules, the dashboard, the movement of people going in and out of trains; in fact, he took in the minutest details of the station while he stood there before boarding the train. Looking at him, I approached him with questions, “Sir, why do you appear to be so overcome with seriousness? May I know what are you observing so closely?” He said “I am looking at the bullet train.

I am looking at the station. I want this in my India.” His dream of watching his countrymen travel in bullet trains was born there.

We then boarded the bullet train and Modiji was once again in his sombre, observant mood. His entire focus was on the technology involved, the seats, the doors, the systems running it, the methods of the TC, how the checking was being done — well, it was as if our CM had taken a mental note of every single bit of the operations running the bullet train in those few moments!

At that time, Modiji possessed a smartphone and he was absolutely adept at its usage. He made all his notes there as well. Therefore, upgradation with superior technology has always been Modiji’s passion and his dream of bringing the bullet train to India has been a result of this passion!

In Hamamatsu, we had a meeting with Mr Osamu Suzuki, Chairman of Suzuki. Modiji expressed his desire to visit the factory where the cars were being manufactured. Now this was an intuitive decision taken by Modiji. While we were headed towards the factory, I asked him “Sir, why are we going there?” He replied, “Japan is an auto hub. All the cars are manufactured here. Very soon, it will be time for Vibrant Gujarat and we must look at engaging with Japan in a big way. The scope is huge as India has a market like none other in the world. So, I just want to go and see how cars are being made in Japan!”

Our next destination was Kobe. It is a huge port in Japan and is one of the most successful ports of the country. During his visit to this port, Modiji insisted on visiting the main bay area which was the hub of all the activities. So we hired a boat especially for him, and do you know what his words were while we were in riding in the boat? He said “You can take a look at this port very closely today. In the future, you will see Dholera come up better than this!” Till then, not much work had been done in the Dholera SIR project, but Modiji’s Kobe visit was to strengthen his vision with respect to this project and its planning!

Modiji is a true visionary and to have him at the helm of affairs of our country is indeed a matter of great pride for us!
