World Environment Day is celebrated on the 5th of June every year. More than 100 countries Worldwide join in the celebration of World Environment Day. It was started by the United Nations Environmental Program in the year 1973 and has been continuing till now. The main purpose of celebrating this day is to spread awareness about the Environment. The primary goal of World Environment Day is to raise awareness about current environmental concerns. On this day, people gather to work together to better our lives. Every year, one subject or environmental concern is highlighted, and a vow to address that issue is made for that year. Organisations from all around the world get together to take little actions toward a better future. Workers and students are encouraged to plant trees or clean up some local areas at schools and offices. These simple actions can have a significant environmental impact.

To improve the state of the environment, the government and international organisations must work together to solve problems and safeguard our planet. Stricter legislation, prohibitions on the use of plastics, and the planting of more trees can all help to reduce pollution and safeguard the environment. This can assist raise awareness and encourage individuals to reduce pollution levels in their surroundings.

World Environment Day serves as a reminder to unite our world and protect the environment at all costs. It sheds light on the factors that have the greatest impact on our environment. The theme of this year’s World Environment Day is ‘Only One Earth.’ The concept behind the subject ‘Only One Earth’ is to emphasise the world’s interconnectedness in order to create an environment favourable to peace, harmony, wealth, and health through preserving nature and life. The theme’s policy is to build and adopt a lifestyle that is pollution-free and abundant in green space. The mission statement remains the same from 50 years ago, to conserve Mother Nature. This is our only home, and we must protect it for future generations. It is the high time that suitable initiatives must be taken on an urgent basis. As we all have been facing pandemic for the last two years, it has highlighted the significance of safe, clean and sustainable environment like never before. Now, it is alarming for all of us to take care of the mother earth and its resources.
