With RaGa refusing to grasp party’s reins, polls likely to be postponed

Jaipur: There is only one discussion going on within Congress from Delhi to Jaipur i.e. whether Rahul Gandhi will accept the post of National President of Congress or not. The process of Congress organisation elections is in the final stages and there is a buzz about the post of National President and Working President. There is a possibility that the election of the National President may be postponed. According to the programme announced earlier by the Congress, the process of election of the President was to start from August 21 and be completed till the election of the new President is held before September 20. The election of State Presidents was also to be held by August 20, but so far this process has not been completed in any state. On the other hand, Rahul is about to leave for the ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’

Amidst the Congress organisational polls, Rahul Gandhi is about to start his ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ from Kanyakumari on September 7. This journey is going to be long. Therefore, if the election of the National President is not held by then, it is likely to be delayed further. Earlier also the internal organisational elections of the Congress were postponed. Despite Rahul’s refusal, efforts are on to persuade him, and on the sidelines, there is talk of appointing two working presidents, one from the South and the other from the Hindi belt. The names of Ashok Gehlot and Mallikarjun Kharge are largely in discussions for these posts. Gehlot can hold the post of Working President along with his current assignment of Raj CM. No matter how much Rahul Gandhi is refusing the post, Congress leaders are chanting his name. Rajasthan Agriculture Minister Lal Chand Kataria said that it is the workers’ desire that Rahul should become the party President. However, in midst of all this, before Sept 30, the list of District Prez, PCC member will be released in Raj. PCC Chief GS Dotasra can continue in his post while Sonia Gandhi may continue as AICC’s Interim President.
