SUVENDU ADHIKARI’S STATEMENT TO SAVE MLAS

New Delhi: In West Bengal, a statement of BJP Legislature Party leader Suvendu Adhikari is in the news. He said that after the fall of Maha Vikas Aghadi’s government in Maharashtra, the government of Jharkhand will fall and then the government of Rajasthan will fall. After that the government of West Bengal will fall at the time of 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Suvendu Adhikari has told party workers at an event in Cooch Behar that they will not have to wait till the 2026 assembly elections, as before that the Mamata Banerjee government will fall. He asked his leaders to exercise some restraint.

At first glance, this statement is highly undemocratic. From this it seems that the central government will use its power to bring down the governments in the states ruled by the opposition parties. But actually Suvendu Adhikari has given this statement in his concern. The BJP had made him the leader of the legislature party because he would keep the party MLAs united. He is a strong leader and he defeated Mamata Banerjee in the assembly elections. But the reality is that he too has been unable to keep the MLAs united. One by one BJP MLAs are leaving the party. Most of the leaders who had left the Trinamool and joined the BJP have returned to TMC while two MPs also left the party.

Then Suvendu Adhikari while comforting the MLAs said that the government will fall in two years. On this pretext, he is trying to keep the MLAs with them. But legislators also understand the reality and that is why his ‘claims’ are not as effective, as he thought them to be.
