Pune (Maharashtra): The accused in the tragic road accident on the Pune Nashik Highway near Kalamb village in Pune's Manchar that claimed the life of a 19-year-old boy late last night has been apprehended and will be produced in court, an official said on Sunday.
Sharing the development, Superintendent of Police (SP), Pune Rural, Pankaj Deshmukh, said, "Last night around 9:30 PM, an accident happened under the Manchar PS limits in which one boy aged 19 years was killed in an accident. He was riding a bike when a car coming from the opposite direction collided with his bike."
"The accused has been identified and arrested. Now, he will be produced in court. The accused has a political background. All necessary actions, medical tests, and blood samples have all been collected and sent for analysis to the concerned hospital and lab," the official said.

According to the official, the nephew of the NCP MLA from Khed, Dilip Mohite Patil, has been arrested in connection with the accident, as it was his vehicle that collided with the victim's bike.
According to a senior police official of the Manchar Police Station, the accident took place on Saturday when 34-year-old Mayur Sahebrao Mohite, the nephew of the NCP MLA, was driving his car on the highway.
In an attempt to overtake another vehicle, Mohite's car collided with a bike coming from the opposite direction. The impact of the collision led to the tragic death of Om Bhalerao, as he sustained injuries to the pillion rider on the bike.
The police have taken Mohite into custody and filed charges against him under IPC section 304 for causing a fatal accident. A case has been registered at the Manchar Police Station, and an investigation has been initiated to determine the sequence of events that led to the accident.

Earlier in the day, at least 22 passengers were injured after their bus rammed into a tree on the roadside near Sahajpur Phata in the Yavat area of Pune district, police said.
According to senior police officials in Pune, "20-22 passengers travelling in a state transport bus were injured after the bus driver lost control and rammed into a tree on the roadside of Sahajpur Phata in the Yavat area of Pune."
The police officials further said that 2-3 passengers who received severe injuries were rushed to the nearby hospital.
