New Delhi: Ahead of the Independence Day celebrations in the national capital, Indian Army personnel on Friday rehearsed a 21 Gun salute at Red Fort. Kaushik Sabnis, Major in the Indian Army said that this particular ceremony is not just a gesture of military precision, it is also a gesture of pride and a remembrance of the sacrifices of our forefathers.
"It was a surreal experience and a matter of pride for the entire ceremonial battery to provide 21 gun salute on the occasion of Independence Day. Now, this particular ceremony is not just a gesture of military precision. It is also a gesture of pride and a remembrance of the sacrifices of our forefathers. In this particular ceremony, we have used seven light field guns for this particular firing day," said Major Sabnis.
"This particular light field gun was developed by the Indian Ordnance Factory in the year 1982 and is approximately 1000 kg lighter than your normal Indian field gun... 21 gun salute is part of three synchronous activities on the day which includes the unfurling of the flag by the Prime Minister, playing of the national anthem by the Indian Condition band and firing of the 21 gun salute, we fire 21 round gun salutes in 52 seconds..." he added further.
