Can’t OK slums on encroached land: HC

Jodhpur: In a major relief to the state government, the High Court on Wednesday ruled that the slums that have come up encroaching government land or grazing fields cannot be regularised.

Hearing the petition of Bhanwar Singh, Chief Justice Akil Kureshi pointed out that changes would have to be made in the master plan before regularising the slums.

Delivering his verdict, the Chief Justice also asked to apply all the restrictions of the Gulab Kothari petition in the case.

Additional Advocate General Sandeep Shah held the briefs for the state government while advocates Moti Singh and Manoj Bohra represented the petitioner.

The verdict has come as a respite for the state government as it will have a positive impact on its flagship programme.
