STRENGTHENING DEMOCRACY BY FORTIFYING EVERY PILLAR

Jaipur: On Dec 21, Vasudev Devnani completes one year as the Speaker of the Rajasthan Assembly. During his tenure, he has introduced numerous innovations to strengthen the traditions of the Assembly, many of which have gained attention nationwide. Devnani has taken significant steps to ensure smooth functioning of House, safeguard legislators’ rights, & promote discussions on public issues.

His focus now is on holding Assembly sessions for at least 40 days each year. Simultaneously, efforts to digitise Assembly operations and make House entirely paperless are in their final stages. Additionally, Assembly’s aesthetic transformation to a pink-themed structure has been completed. In the upcoming new year session, the Rajasthan Assembly will debut a refreshed look. Alongside the pink theme, the Assembly’s functioning will be fully digitised. Tablets will be installed at each member’s seat, introducing new dimensions to parliamentary operations. This transition to a paperless Assembly is an innovative step by Devnani and will significantly reduce the Secretariat’s reliance on physical documents.

As part of the “One Nation, One Application” initiative, the introduction of the NEVA (National eVidhan Application) is a significant step towards digitising the Rajasthan Assembly. For the first time in the Rajasthan Assembly, an all-party meeting was convened before the session’s commencement. Inspired by the Lok Sabha, this initiative created a cordial atmosphere between the ruling party and the opposition. Devnani reinstated the slip system in the Assembly and transitioned it online. He has ensured timely submission of committee reports, which are now being discussed in the House. The reinstatement of the system for raising urgent public issues via slips has further streamlined the legislative process. On Constitution Day, Devnani inaugurated a Constitution Gallery within the museum, reflecting a research-oriented perspective on the Indian Constitution.

The Rajasthan Assembly introduced historic innovations in its calendar and diary publications. Within just one year, the Assembly has seen numerous initiatives bringing new energy, direction, and momentum. These innovations aim to establish Rajasthan’s Assembly as the finest in the nation.
