Bharat Mala Highway moves ahead with revised Rs 872 crore budget

Jaisalmer: After a prolonged wait of five years, the construction of 137 km Bharat Mala highway has finally received approval.

The project cost was estimated to be Rs 390 crore but after objection from Desert National Park authorities, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) got a survey conducted by WII, incurring an expense of Rs 50 lakh. Now the project’s budget has increased to Rs 872 crore.

In the first phase, the construction of a 101.20 km stretch from Jaisalmer to Myajlar has been approved, while the second phase will cover 36.60 km from Munabao to Tanot.

The Forest Advisory Committee has granted permission under 16 specific conditions. The work will be done according to the conditions.
