Women empowerment key to India’s progress, says Prez Murmu
Jaisalmer: President Droupadi Murmu on Saturday addressed Lakhpati Didi sammelan and witnessed Indian army’s integrated fire power exercise during her one day Jaisalmer visit. Murmu also witnessed the exercise at Pokhran firing range and interacted with troops.
Addressing the sammelan, President Murmu remembered the culture and folk deities of Rajasthan. She said that Women empowerment is very important in itself. Referring to the Lakhpati Didi scheme of the Centre, applause was given to Ruma Devi, famous for her SHG. Highlighting the significant contributions of women in Rajasthan to both their families and economic progress, Murmu shared Central Govt’s ambitious target of creating over 11 lakh “Lakhpati Didis” in the state. “Women empowerment is important in itself. Women empowerment and equal participation of women in workforce also contribute to social and economic progress. No country can move forward by ignoring 50% of its population,” Murmu said, adding, countrymen pledge that India should celebrate its centenary of independence as developed nation. She said Rajasthan is land of heroes.
