This time poll battle is between new faces of BJP and Congress

Rajsamand: The second phase of voting for the Rajsamand Lok Sabha seat is on April 26 and both the major parties BJP and Congress are busy working out the electoral equation for victory. Talking about the candidates for the Rajsamand seat, this time both parties have placed bets on new faces and both are contesting their first elections.

BJP has made Mahima Singh Mewar its candidate and she belongs to the erstwhile Panchkot royal family which is in West Bengal. Mahima Singh received her primary education from Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh and is married to the Mewar royal family. Her husband Vishvaraj Singh Mewar is currently an MLA from the Nathdwara assembly seat.

The Congress had earlier declared Sudarshan Singh Rawat, former MLA from Bhim in Rajsamand district, as its candidate, but Rawat refused to contest the elections for some reason, after which Congress made Damodar Gurjar its candidate for this seat. Congress had earlier declared Gurjar as its candidate from Bhilwara. Damodar Gurjar comes from a farmer family, was born in Gawari village of Sawai Madhopur district and received his primary education from his native village. Gurjar has also served in the Rajasthan Police and has also been active in social work. He has been active in the political field since 2011 and is continuously working for his organisation.

The direct contest for the Rajsamand seat is between the BJP and Congress candidates. So far, three elections have been held for Rajsamand Lok Sabha seat, which came into existence in 2008 after delimitation. The first Lok Sabha elections were held on this seat in 2009 in which Congress candidate Gopal Singh Edwa won. After that, the BJP won two elections in 2014 and 2019 due to the Modi wave. In such a situation, the contest of 2024 is going to be very interesting. It remains to be seen whether the BJP, which has won this seat twice in a row, will score a hat-trick or will Congress win.

As regards the caste equation, Rajput votes decide the victory equation of this seat because, in the elections held in 2009, Congress candidate Gopal Singh won this seat, while in 2014, Hariom Singh Rathore from BJP, and in 2019, erstwhile Jaipur royal Diya Kumari, who is currently the Deputy CM of the state, won from this seat. However, Gopal Singh Edwa has now left Congress and joined the BJP due to which this time the election equations seem to have changed a bit.
