Raj to implement RTH from May: Health min

New Delhi: Health Minister Parsadi Lal Meena has said that under the Right to Health (RTH) Bill, big private hospitals will have to provide free treatment. “The bill will get approval from the Governor this month and RTH will be implemented in Rajasthan from May. As soon as rules are implemented, big hospitals will have to provide free treatment to patients in case of emergency,” the Health Minister said while interacting with the media along with spokesperson Pawan Khera at the New Delhi Congress Headquarters (AICC) on Friday.

“We have categorically refused to withdraw the bill or amend the bill, but we are including their demands in the rules. The private hospitals which are protesting today will welcome it after the rules are made. Just as 1000 private hospitals are associated with the Chiranjeevi scheme, they will also be associated with the Right to Health. We haven’t forced anyone. Hospitals with less than 50 beds are not included in this. The hospitals which have taken land from the government free of cost or at a concessional rate, which is taking government assistance, those big hospitals will have to provide free treatment in an emergencys,” Meena said.
