Four members of family hacked to death, burnt in hut

Jodhpur: In a gruesome incident, four members of a family were on early Wednesday morning hacked with an axe by a relative and the bodies were set on fire at Cheria village in Osian town of Jodhpur, police said. Among them, a sixmonth girl child was allegedly hurled alive into the fire. The police identified the assailant, identified as Pappu Ram (19), a nephew of the head of the victim’s family, and caught him within 4 hours of the incident, said DGP Umesh Mishra.

SP (Jodhpur Rural) Dharmendra Singh Yadav said Pappu Ram entered victims’ house on a farm at around 4 am and killed head of family Poonaram (60), his wife Bhanwari (55) and their daughterin-law Dhapu (23), and her six-month-old daughter Manisha. Dhapu’s husband was out for night shift at a stone cutter at the time of the incident.

“He killed three members one by one in their sleep by hitting them at their throats with an axe. He then gathered the bodies near the kitchen and set them ablaze,” Yadav said.
