DPR of 15 projects has been sent to States: GS Shekhawat

Jodhpur: Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat said that work is being done to create a consensus among the states regarding the river linking project. He said that DPR of 15 link projects has been prepared and sent to the states.

“An agreement has been reached between Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh to connect Ken and Betwa rivers, work on which will start soon,” he said while interacting with a group of journalists from Assam on Sunday. Discussing the river linking project, the Union Minister said that 15-16 percent of the country faces floods every year and the same part faces drought. Shekhawat said that former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee had a dream that we should create a grid by connecting the rivers. “A committee was formed in this direction,” he said.

Shekhawat said that Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh have signed an agreement to connect Ken and Betwa rivers and work has started towards materializing the plan worth more than Rs 40,000 crore.
