Bihar Startup EnglishYaari Engineered by Three Friends for Fluency Success
Patna (Bihar): One Indian startup stands out in the crowded market for its emphasis on a topic that struck a deep chord with its founders, Vikas, Piyush, and Sandeep. These three friends found a common struggle: the fear of speaking English fluently during their engineering studies in Bihar.
This became particularly evident when they went to Tech-Fest Kshitij at IIT Kgp. EnglishYaari’s co-founder Vikas says, “We met so many inspiring people, but communication barriers limited our interactions.”
They learned this wasn’t unusual from their experience at the tech festival. They realised it was a common problem: many individuals, despite excelling in their fields, lacked the confidence to express themselves clearly in English, often due to a fear of judgment. Traditional classroom settings, with large student-teacher ratios, didn't address this need for personalised learning.
Growing up in an environment where secure government jobs were the norm, the three friends yearned to create something different. “We wanted to build something that was the need of the hour,” said Piyush, “and this problem of inability to speak English caught our eyes. Deep down, we were fixing our problem, too.”
This desire for a solution led to the birth of EnglishYaari in 2021. This platform offered a new approach: personalised, live, 1-on-1 online sessions with expert tutors.
Furthermore, this personalised approach transcends the session material. EnglishYaari offers features like flexible scheduling, recorded sessions for review, affordable pricing plans, and even a trial session to experience the platform firsthand.
Fortunately, this commitment has paid off. EnglishYaari has over 10,000 empowered learners and a diversified clientele, including bankers, teachers, entrepreneurs, IT professionals, healthcare workers, students, and stay-at-home moms.
The Startup Policy 2017 of the Bihar government also provided an additional financial boost in August 2023. “The seed funding inspired our passion,” shared co-founder Sandeep. “It allowed us to build a strong team, invest in technology, and ultimately enhance the user experience for our learners.”
