Wedding venues to be classified under ‘public interest’ land use

Jaipur: The Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) has forwarded a proposal to the state government, suggesting that wedding venues be classified under the “public interest” land use category. If approved, this proposal would pave the way for changing the land use of illegal wedding venues across the state, which have been operating without proper legal status.

Currently, a large number of wedding venues in cities are functioning illegally, with many operating on residential or agricultural plots. Although local bodies like municipal corporations and municipalities issue licenses for these venues, most of them lack the required land lease for their designated land use.One of the primary challenges in regularizing these venues has been the need for a land use change. The JDA’s proposal aims to resolve this issue by enabling the authorities to modify the land use of these venues, making them compliant with existing regulations. The JDA’s proposal suggests that wedding venues be included in the category of land use that serves the public interest. This would allow local bodies to grant legal land leases for these venues, generating significant revenue for municipal authorities.
