Water resources dept unveils flood-drought linking projects
Jaipur: The Water Resources Dept is advancing plans to divert floodwater to drought-affected regions. Teams have surveyed numerous dams to strategize diverting floodwater into drought-hit districts’ dams. They’re kicking off two projects under the River Linking Project for the Mahi River Basin.
The first project, Mahi-Jakham-Banas River Linking, aims to irrigate Jakham Dam’s area with Mahi Dam’s water, diverting water to multiple dams. The estimated cost is Rs 7,100 crore, with Rs 30 crore allocated for 2024-25. The second project, Mahi-SomJawai River Linking, involves redirecting surplus water to several dams.
According to the Water Resources Department, two projects of the first phase will be completed for Rs 14,000 crores.
