Uproar in Assembly over govt's decline in women atrocities claims
Jaipur: Noisy scenes erupted in the Rajasthan Assembly on Thursday over the State government's claim that there has been a decrease in cases of atrocities against women during its six-month tenure. Dissatisfied with the government's reply during the Question Hour, Congress MLAs created a ruckus and raised slogans.
In response to a question by Congress MLA Indira Meena, Ministerin-charge Gajendra Singh Khimsar stated that 20,767 cases of atrocities against women were registered in the state from January 1 to June 30. He claimed that compared to the six months of the previous Congress government's tenure, such cases had decreased by six percent.
"The number of such cases has decreased by six percent during this period. There has been a decrease in cases of atrocities against women," the Minister said.
Providing information about the steps taken by the government to prevent incidents of harassment of women, he mentioned, "7,400 places have been identified where there is more movement of women. Orders have been placed for installing 20,615 new CCTV cameras at identified locations across Raj." Opposition criticised Min’s comparison, with LoP Tikaram Jully stating that Min shouldn’t mislead House, citing 2,861 cases in April 2024 and 4,088 cases in May. Dissatisfied, Congress MLAs protested, but Speaker Vasudev Devnani moved to the next question.
