Tigress Rani’s two cubs thriving for 50 days
Jaipur: The two cubs of tigress Rani have been in the Nahargarh Biological Park’s neonatal care for the last 50 days and are doing fine. The cubs had to be separated from their mother when they were only 22-days-old because of the aggressive nature of Rani.
The cubs are under the supervision of Dr Arvind Mathur. A dummy of their mother has been kept near them. The cubs are often seen playing around the dummy, which they think to be their mother.
The forest department is leaving no stone unturned to raise them. They are fed medicated imported milk and medicines and are monitored through CCTV. However, the question is where will they be rewilded when they turn sixmonths-old as they cannot be confined to the neonatal centre then.
The female cub among them is of a rare white species and the forest department must have a plan.
On May 10, the tigress Rani gave birth to four cubs. One of which was stillborn and another died on June 2. Following this, the tigress had turned aggressive so the remaining two cubs were separated for their own safety and kept in neonatal care at Nahargarh Park.
