Rajasthan’s big cat count surges to 133, boosted by new cubs
Jaipur: On International Tiger Day on Monday, Rajasthan can take pride in calling itself the land of tigers with a total of 133 big cats. There are 72 tigers in Ranthambore, 43 in Sariska, 10 in Dholpur (including Karauli), six in Ramgarh Vishdhari and two in Mukundra. Besides, 13 tiger cubs were born in Sariska in the last six months.
The wildlife management, surveillance and regular patrolling have made Rajasthan a ‘safe place’ for tigers. Forest Minister Sanjay Sharma’s active efforts and efficient leadership breathed new life into the forest department. Excellent monitoring by Chief Wildlife Warden Pawan Upadhyay, FD Anoop KR, Rajendra Hooda, DFO Ramanand Bhakar, Sanjeev Sharma, Piyush Sharma and better coordination and team work of Nahar Singh and Abhimanyu Saharan have played a key role in increasing the tiger population.
Field Directors and DCF’s do field patrolling in all five tiger reserves. Grassland development has changed the environment and made breeding conducive. After Ranthambore, tiger tourism and employment will increase in Sariska also with an increasing number of tigers.
