MADHUKAR GUPTA APPOINTED NEW STATE CHIEF ELECTION COMMISSIONER

Jaipur: Former IAS officer Madhukar Gupta has been appointed as the new state Chief Election Commissioner in Rajasthan. Governor Kalraj Mishra issued an order in this regard, according to a Raj Bhavan spokesperson.

Gupta, who has served on important posts in the state and centre, has been appointed for a term of five years or till the age of 65 years, whichever is earlier. It may be noted that PS Mehra recently completed tenure as the state election commissioner.

Talking about his priorities, Gupta said that conducting pending panchayat, local body elections peacefully will be his priorities. The commission is lagging behind in innovation and there is a need to develop a system like the election department. Gupta may join on Monday.
