I-T raids uncover huge tax evasion in Jaipur
Jaipur: In a crackdown based on information about luxury weddings, the Income Tax Department’s Investigation Wing launched raids on Thursday at 22 locations in Jaipur. These raids target businesses involved in tent, decoration, catering and event services for destination weddings.
Despite generating huge revenue, these businesses have failed to pay adequate taxes. The raids have already led to the discovery of digital proof of cash transactions for services rendered, along with raw receipts and diaries containing payment details. Some of the wedding managers under scrutiny have provided services not just within India but also for VIP weddings abroad.
These service providers, who supply tents and decorations to luxury items, were found to charge clients exorbitant prices, with a significant portion of payments made in cash, avoiding tax liabilities. Certain companies offering destination wedding services were involved in large-scale manipulation of hotel bookings for guests.
Those who are under the Income Tax radar are Taluka Tent House and Group, Bhavna Charan, Gunjan Singhal Design, Mapsor, and Indian Wedding Planner and associates. IT sleuths have seized Rs 5 crore in cash & evidence of transactions worth crores
