I-T dept seizes biggest cash haul of Rs 7 crore recovered from a car
Jaipur: In a significant development, the Income Tax Department has initiated parallel action in the case of Rs 7.01 crore seized by Abu Road RIICO Police on October 24. The department’s Benami Property Transactions (Prohibition) Unit, based in Jaipur, has claimed interim attachment of the seized amount under the Benami Transactions (Prohibition) Act.
This move means that if anyone comes forward claiming to be the rightful owner of the cash, they will have to face questions from the Income Tax Department.
This is reportedly the largest cash seizure action in Rajasthan under the Benami Act. The department aims to curb illicit cash transactions, particularly involving hawala and courier services. The money, hidden in a secret compartment in a Creta car, was intercepted at the RajasthanGujarat border and was being transported from Delhi to Ahmedabad. Two accused have been arrested.
