High demand and supply gaps plague Rajasthan’s power grid
Jaipur: The state is reeling under power crisis and people are troubled because of power cuts and the negligence of engineers. Rajasthan Discom administration, however, claims that efforts are on to reduce the gap between demand and supply. They are also mulling power cuts in industries.
With the rise in mercury, power demand has touched its peak. The gap in production and demand has widened from 1500 to 2500 MW. On May 15, 3178 lakh units of electricity was supplied whereas on May 22, 3575 lakh units. To meet the demand, Power Development Corporation is buying 5 to 6 crore units of expensive electricity every day from the exchange but it has not helped. The plan to borrow electricity from other states has also failed.
