Hanuman Langurs vanishing from Jpr
Jaipur: A species is on the verge of extinction from Jhalana’s fauna! Now Hanuman langurs are becoming rare in Jhalana since till one year ago, their number was around 400-500.
Now the number of Hanuman langurs has reduced to 10-15. Bad food base, infected food material and painful disease has become the reason for the decline. Last year, many langurs died due to spread of an unknown disease after which 65 langurs were rescued and treated. After this, a phase of experiments on management was started in Jhalana and officers and personnel kept changing and wildlife management got messed up. Meanwhile, more than 400 langurs died due to disease in just one year. This weakened the prey base of Jhalana and also affected the fauna. Now there are monkey points on Route No. 2 but no monkeys. If the system is not improved soon, Hanuman langurs will become completely extinct from Jhalana.
