Ex-IPS Shekhawat’s surprise dive into politics!
Jaipur: The decision of retired IPS Keshar Singh Shekhawat to join BJP has surprised political and administrative observers, almost in the similar manner how retired IAS Antar Singh’s entry into BJP surprised everyone. It is surprising because both the officers were the ‘favourites’ of the current Congress government.
Shekhawat, who joined BJP this past Saturday, retired ten months back in December 2022. The current government gave him proper preference and made him SP of five districts, one after the other, without any break. He was first made Bharatpur SP, followed by Jalore, Banswara, Dholpur and Kota.
Shekhawat’s image is that of a no-nonsense cop and a hard taskmaster. Since he was associated with major happenings in the state, he forged a standing in administration and polity. He played an important role on Bhanwari Devi case, dacoit Jagan Gurjar case and Anandpal case. He even came face to face with infamour dacoit Keshav Gurjar.
In 2013, Shekhawat took action against BJP candidate Shambhu Singh Khetasar, the Rajput community became miffed with him and while serving as Bharatpur SP in 2018, he was under target of BJP leaders.
