Deepika Misra gets IAF Gallantry award
Jaipur/Kota: The Indian Air Force Chief has awarded the Gallantry Medal to Wing Commander Deepika Misra who hails from Rajasthan’s Kota.
With this, Wing Commander Misra became the first woman officer in the Indian Air Force to be presented a gallantry award. Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has also congratulated her on the achievement. Gehlot said that Rajasthan is proud of daughter’s high flight.
“The country’s first woman Air Force officer who received the gallantry award has brought pride to the entire state,” he said.
Misra, a helicopter pilot, was conferred a Vayu Sena Medal (Gallantry) for an act of “exceptional courage” displayed during a flood relief operation in Madhya Pradesh in August 2021.The operation that included low hover pick-ups and winching lasted for an 8 days and she saved the lives of 47 people, including women and children. Her efforts of bravery and courage not only saved precious lives in a natural calamity but also instilled sense of safety amongst common people.
