Tamil Nadu: 3 party functionaries hacked to death in 24 hrs, opposition takes on ruling DMK
Chennai: Three functionaries of different political parties were allegedly hacked to death in three separate incidents in Tamil Nadu on Sunday.
All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) spokesperson Kovai Sathyan targeted Chief Minister MK Stalin and alleged lawlessness in the state.
"In less than 24 hours, three people have been murdered belonging to different political parties in Tamil Nadu - the first one from AIDMK, second from the BJP and the third one from Congress. This clearly indicates the state of lawlessness in Tamil Nadu and the incompetence of CM, MK Stalin," Kovai Sathyan said while speaking to ANI.
"The majority of this lawlessness and breakdown of law and order emerged from DMK functionaries or the members associated with DMK," he added.
He further alleged that the police are "clueless" about how to act against the ruling party because the high command order to police is to not act against the people associated with DMK.
According to the police, two people have been taken into custody for questioning in connection with the death of AIADMK ward secretary Padmanabhan in Cuddalore district on Sunday.
"The mysterious gang ran away after hitting Padmanabhan while he was driving his two-wheeler and murdered him on the road. May have committed murder due to enmity. two persons named Murali and Sridhar from Navaneetha Nagar area of Cuddalore have been taken for questioning," Inspector PK Sajith of Bahour Police Station said.
In a post on X, BJP state president K Annamalai condoled the death of BJP district secretary Selvakumar and hit out at the ruling DMK in the matter.
"The news that Mr. Selvakumar, District Secretary of Sivagangai @BJP4Tamilnadu Cooperative Division, was hacked to death by anti-social elements last night is very shocking. My deepest condolences to his bereaved family. I assure you that @BJP4Tamilnadu will support them in this difficult time," Annamalai said.
He further alleged that ever since the DMK came to power, Tamil Nadu has become the capital of murders.
"Anti-socials have no fear of the government or the police. The Chief Minister, who has the police in his hands to maintain law and order, is running a political drama day in and day out. Never in history has there been such a dire situation where the police have been turned into a mercenary department and the people of the entire state are risking their lives for the sake of a single family. Let Stalin consider whether he has the moral right to continue as Chief Minister," the BJP chief said.
BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla launched attacks against CM Stalin and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi.
"The law and order situation in Tamil Nadu is going from bad to worse. After the brutal hacking of BSP leader K Armstrong, a dalit leader, that took place at the beginning of July. In the last three days, we have seen three consecutive hackings and political murders take place--one from the BJP, one from AIADMK and one from Congress. This shows that law & order are out of the control of MK Stalin," Shehzad Poonawalla said in a self-made video on Monday.
"But there is no time for Rahul Gandhi or the Congress party to take a stand on it. The INDI Alliance has no position on it. This shows their two-faced agenda, their double face and their cowardice to speak about an issue that is inconvenient for them," he added.
