PGV Hindi heartland icon? Cong is cautious

New Delhi: Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra participated in Bharat Jodo Yatra in Madhya Pradesh. On Thursday, she joined Rahul Gandhi’s yatra along with her husband and children and it is being told that she will also travel for four days. Now the question is, why was Priyanka made to walk with Rahul after half the journey? Why was she not sent for the yatra when it was passing through South India? After all, Sonia Gandhi had gone to Karnataka to attend the yatra and just as Madhya Pradesh is important for the Congress, Karnataka is also equally important. It was also discussed that Priyanka would also join the yatra in Mandya. But she did not go there and has joined the yatra in Madhya Pradesh.

In fact, Congress leaders feel that Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s identity is more entrenched in the ‘Hindi heartland’. She has not worked in South India, whereas Sonia and Rahul Gandhi have been more active there. Priyanka was saved with this thought in mind. She has joined the yatra from Madhya Pradesh, where elections are due next year. After this, it is possible that she will be involved in the visit of every state for a while. The yatra through Uttar Pradesh will reportedly be of a short duration. Despite this, she can travel there too. Keep in mind that she is in charge of Uttar Pradesh. In Rajasthan, Haryana and Punjab too she may join in on the yatra. But she has not gone for campaigning in Gujarat assembly elections and there is no programme to go either.
