"Other accused will be found... no compromise": Assam Minister Keshab Mahanta on Assam minor gang rape case
Nagaon: Assam Cabinet Minister, Keshab Mahanta, on Saturday met the family member of Dhing gang rape victim's the Nagaon district and said that the government will protect every woman and will find other accused as well.
The minor girl was allegedly gang-raped by three persons in the Dhing area on August 22 evening while she was returning to home from tuition classes.
He said, "I spoke with the public, women. Our government will protect every woman and no compromise will be made. We will find other accused as well."
He also said that he will meet the public and will speak to the Chief Minister about whatever is their needs.
Assam Minister Pijush Hazarika also met the rape survivor at a hospital and enquired about her health condition. He also assured the family that strict action would be taken against the perpetrators.
In a post on X, Hazarika said, "Enquired about the health condition of the young victim of Dhing who is undergoing treatment in Nagaon. Doctor informed the victim is recovering. Promised everyone that our government will not spare the criminals who committed such heinous crimes."
According to reports, locals found the girl in a semi-conscious state by the side of a road and immediately admitted her to a hospital.
Meanwhile, police said they have recovered the body of the prime accused from a pond on August 23 a day after allegedly escaping from police custody.
Swapnaneel Deka, Superintendent of Police of Nagaon district told ANI over the phone that on Friday police arrested Tafazul Islam in connection with the case.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Friday, "When there is any atrocity against women, we need to take prompt action."
