L Murugan takes charge as MoS in I&B Ministry, thanks PM Modi for 'opportunity to serve Ministry again'
New Delhi: L Murugan assumed charge as Minister of State in the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (I&B) on Tuesday.
Murugan was welcomed and greeted by the ministry staff as he arrived at his office to take charge.
"Today, I am taking charge as Minister of State for I&B. I am very happy and I express my sincere thanks and gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for giving me the opportunity to serve in this ministry again," Murugan said while speaking to reporters after taking charge.
This is Murugan's second consecutive term as MoS in the PM Modi cabinet. He was elected as MP of Rajya Sabha from Madhya Pradesh.
Murugan fought the Lok Sabha elections from the Nilgiris constituency in Tamil Nadu but lost to DMK's A Raja. Later, he was elected to the Rajya Sabha from Madhya Pradesh, paving the way for a Cabinet berth for the second time.
Ashwini Vaishnaw assumed charge of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (I&B) earlier in the day.
L Murugan presented Vaishnaw with a bouquet and both shared a hug. The Union Minister was also presented with a tree sapling by the Ministry staff after he assumed office.
Apart from Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Vaishnaw has been assigned portfolios as Minister of the Railways and Minister of Electronics and Information Technology.
