In democracy, writers should boldly express their views for welfare of the society, national interest: Nitin Gadkari

Mumbai: Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has expressed the opinion that since our country has democracy, writers should boldly express their views for the welfare of the society and national interest. He was speaking at the concluding program of the 96th All India Literature Conference held in Wardha. Speaking on the occasion, he also thanked the Vidarbha Sahitya Sangh and the local administration for the success of the literary meet.

“I am happy that collectors, education officers, police officers were honored in this Sahitya Samiti today. Being a democracy in our country, writers must express his/her views strongly for the welfare and national interest and politicians must accept that it is their right”, remarked Nitin Gadkari.

“Tolerance, depth is the specialty of our Indian culture. There can be difference of opinion, but there should not be difference of heart. Even if a person expresses an opinion contrary to ours, his point of view should be listened to. The democracy of this country should remain a tradition. This is the specialty of Indian culture,” he said.

Speaking further, he also said that he is sorry that he could not attend the inaugural program of the literary conference. “Also, this meeting was successful only with the co-operation of the people of Wardha. I am very happy that the meeting took place in Wardha. This land is the land of Mahatma Gandhi, Acharya Vinoba Bhave. People like Sindhutai Sapkal, Pandurang Khankhoje lived in this land”, he remarked.

“I am happy that there was no controversy at this year’s Sahitya Samela. Because previously when learned people gathered, there was a dispute. In politics, we have four or five people who take decisions and the rest just raise their hands. That’s why democracy works well. Politics, social cause, development cause, political policy, public policy and religious policy have different meanings,” he said.
