EXCLUSIVE! Manav Gohil: OTT gives you the liberty

Mumbai (Maharashtra): Manav Gohil is one of the actors on television that any generation can easily recognize. He is such an impactful actor that even today, he is known for his several memorable performances on screen. Sitting down with First India, the actor revealed his OTT debut with the Gujarati series Matsyavedh, his journey as an actor and more.

Manav revealed that he got a positive response from everyone for his role in Matsyavedh. Calling it a character like none other he has played, the actor said, “I am getting a lot of good feedback about how people are seeing me in a different avatar. And it was as much a surprise for me while going through the script of the series because that is not my image. So, somebody broke that pattern and decided to trust me with the story and that was a great thing. So, I was happy to go for it.”

Although it was his debut at the OTT, Manav stated that he did not feel any difference from the actor’s point of view. He said, “The only difference is the director and the script. The scripting for TV is completely different as I have to do a lot of drama. But when you are doing a film or an OTT thing, you don’t need to deliver too much. And of course, there is the director with the vision that you try to understand. In totality, you start playing for the director. So, I just played my character the way he wanted me to.”

The actor further stated that television has not changed much when it comes to the extent of its content. “I can’t strip on TV. I can’t use foul language on Tv. I cannot even say something as basic as ‘saala kameena’. But OTT gives you that liberty. And Matsyavedh was that kind of an experience for me,” he said.

Revealing his extensive journey as an actor Manav made the shocking revelation that he did not want to become an actor. “I was looking for work. It wasn’t about TV or films. There wasn’t any such demarcation for me. So, the Tv thing just happened to me. And I started doing more work with the time and then started doing films as well.”

The Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki actor stated discipline and honesty in life and work as the two things that have managed to keep him relevant in today’s time in a very dynamic industry. “I think goodwill also plays a major part. If you think only about yourself as an actor, it is one thing. But it helps when you can empathise with the makers and understand their side as well. So, yes, it is also the reputation that helps,” he stated.
