Deepika Padukone, the first Indian to be the face of Louis Vuitton in 168 years

Deepika Padukone has achieved some impossible feats and it seems that she has not yet finished. On May 11, Tuesday, French luxury brand Louis Vuitton announced the actress as their first Indian brand ambassador. The news was announced as part of their new handbag campaign which also stars American actress Emma Stone and Chinese actress Zhou Dongyu. They further released some shots from the promotional poster shoots.

The actress had previously modelled for the brand in 2020 as she was seen in a mock book cover photoshoot with the likes of Lea Seydoux and Sophie Turner. “Following a strong collaborative relationship with the Maison... the award-winning actress begins an exciting new chapter of her journey with Louis Vuitton,” the brand said in their statement.

This news comes right after the Om Shaanti Om actress was announced as part of the 9-member jury at the Cannes Film Festival. She was also revealed as the cover star for Vogue’s 2022 magazine edition. The photoshoot featured her wearing several Louis Vuitton items as the actress shares her relationship with the brand and its creative director, Nicolas Ghesquière in the cover story.

Talking about her previous association with the Fashion house, Deepika revealed, “When you're 18 and have just started earning, you don't even bother looking into a Louis Vuitton store when you walk past it because you know you're never going to be able to afford it. There are some things that are aspirational and then there are some things that are just completely out of your orbit. My association with Louis Vuitton is the latter. I'm a very practical, pragmatic person in reality, but I keep having to pinch myself because I can't believe this is real. And it speaks to the kind of diversity I hope to see in the future.”

Although the actress has campaigned for brands like Levi’s and L'Oréal, this is the first time the actress will be an ambassador for a luxury house.

The actress was previously trolled by international media after her many international red-carpet appearances. Right from her dressing style to her prominence in these events, they targeted every nook and crony they could. Now such a huge announcement comes as a slap in their face as it shows the huge influence the actress has not only in India but Internationally as well.
