Assam CM requests Mamata Banerjee to hand over IIT Kharagpur student death case to CBI

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday requested his West Bengal counterpart Mamata Banerjee to hand over the death case of the IIT Kharagpur student to the Central Bureau of Investigation for a transparent and fair investigation.
He said that the second autopsy report of the deceased student showed a gunshot and stabbing wound on his neck.
The case pertains to the death of IIT Kharagpur student Faizan Ahmed who was found dead in his hostel in October last year.
"Late Faizan Ahmed was found dead in his hostel room on October 14, 2022. Although his death was claimed by the college authority to be a case of suicide, his bereaved parents had observed injury marks on his body which indicated that it was a case of homicide. I had, therefore, requested you for a thorough investigation into the unnatural death of the bright young student," CM Sarma stated in the letter.
"It is now reported that, as directed by the Calcutta High Court, a second autopsy was carried out by exhuming Late Faizan Ahmed's body. According to the second forensic report, there was a gunshot wound on the upper left side of Faizan Ahmed's neck and a stab wound on the right side of his neck," he added.
The Assam Chief Minister further said that given the "shocking findings" of the latest forensic report, the perpetrators of the crime must be brought to justice.
"Given the shocking findings of the latest forensic report, it is imperative that the perpetrators of the horrific crime as well as any other person involved in concealing the crime, are brought to book, thereby ensuring justice to the deceased and closure to the grief-stricken parents. I, therefore, request you to kindly hand over the case to the CBI for a transparent and fair investigation of the crime," the letter added.
After the college authorities claimed that the student died by suicide, the deceased's parents filed a complaint in the Calcutta High Court, alleging he was murdered.
According to the second forensic report, there was a gunshot wound on the upper left side of Faizan's neck and a stab wound on the right side of his neck.
