A test of Kejriwal’s ambition!

New Delhi: The elections in five states are a test of ambition of Aam Aadmi Party’s national convener and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal.

The results of these elections may give wings to his all-India political ambitions or he may sit in tatters. Although Kejriwal has had the ambition of doing all-India politics for a long time, but after forming the govt in Delhi for the second time in 2020, his hopes have increased.

This time he is expecting good performances in Punjab, Uttarakhand and Goa. In Punjab, his party is looking at the possibility of forming the govt.

Several prepoll surveys have projected the AAP to be the single largest party. However, even in the 2017 elections, many survey agencies were forming the AAP govt in Punjab.

Furthermore, the BJP has created a ‘wave of sympathy’ towards AAP by getting a BJP leader elected as Mayor, despite AAP winning the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation elections.

In Uttarakhand, Kejriwal has made retired army officer Ajay Kotiyal as the chief ministerial candidate and is making many lofty claims ranging from free electricity, water to employment. In Goa too, he is contesting elections on similar promises.

His attempt is to open an account in Uttarakhand. So their effort in Goa is to somehow win two-four seats so that AAP can play a role while forming the govt in a hung assembly.

He wants to get enough seats in Punjab, Goa and Uttarakhand that his party can go ahead to become a national party. After that he will focus on Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh.
