"A long time demand": Madhya Pradesh CM on inauguration of new airport in Rewa
Rewa: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav dubbed it a "long-time demand" following the inauguration of the new terminal building in Rewa airport on Sunday.
Speaking to ANI, CM Yadav said, "Today, PM Modi connected from Varanasi and gave us the opportunity to inaugurate the airport. I congratulate the people of the state and the country for this gift by PM Modi. I hope that especially in the aviation sector, with all the opportunities which are coming up in the state, the people of the region would benefit from this."
"This was a demand for a long time, our deputy chief minister Rajendra Shukla was trying for a long time. So today when we got the chance I came to the place to inaugurate the airport," he said.
Earlier in the day, PM Modi inaugurated new terminal buildings of Rewa Airport, Maa Mahamaya Airport, Ambikapur and Sarsawa Airport worth over Rs 220 crore. The airports were upgraded to handle 2.3 crore passengers combined.
"The designs of these airports are influenced and derived from the common elements of heritage structures of the region," read a statement by the Prime Minister's Office.
The airports were upgraded under the UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik) scheme, launched on October 21, 2016. The scheme aims to make air travel affordable and accessible to common citizens.
Additionally, PM Modi laid the foundation stone and inaugurated multiple development projects in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh on Sunday. The projects include multiple airport projects worth over Rs 6,100 crore and multiple development initiatives in Varanasi. (ANI)
