5 states’ polls: Code of Conduct likely on Oct 7
New Delhi: It appears that elections to be held this year in five states including Rajasthan, will be held on time. The matter was discussed informally among parliamentarians during the special session of Parliament on Monday and amidst these the murmurs of Model Code of Conduct have intensified.
According to sources, there are indications that Model Code of Conduct will be imposed on October 7. Notably, in the last elections, the code of conduct was imposed on 5 October.
Interestingly, leaders believe that the Central government’s idea of holding state assembly elections with the general elections might not come to fruition as the first meeting of the ‘One Nation, One Election’ committee will be held on September 23.
This means that the special session of Parliament would have culminated by then and work to introduce the Bill for ‘One nation, One election’ would not be carried out.
Notably, On Saturday, former president Ram Nath Kovind had announced that the first meeting of the ‘One Nation, One Election’ committee to examine and make recommendations for holding simultaneous polls to Lok Sabha, state assemblies, municipalities, and panchayats will be held on September 23.
