Nikhil Nanda on World Television Day: Television remains a highly influential medium in India even today
The first World Television Forum was held on November 21, 1996, and the United Nations has proclaimed the day as World Television Day. Small screen has been a source of entertainment for years and is still loved by all. The day highlights how TV has changed, its purpose, the kind of content it has been showcasing and the way forward. Nikhil Nanda, industrialist, fitness enthusiast, actor and entrepreneur, talks about the medium and more.
“Television remains a highly influential medium in India even today. Over the past 30 years, since the introduction of satellite television in 1993, there has been a significant evolution,” he says.
TV has got competition from OTT. “The reach of television has expanded to cover nearly 85% of households in India which means the influence that television carries on the people at large is a lot more compared to what OTT does. OTT is just beginning to come into the race. It'll take another 10-20 years, maybe, for it to reach where television is today,” he adds.
Nikhil has acted in the web series Akhri Sach web series and produced it too. Ask if he would like to produce and even perform on TV and he says, “We are very keenly looking at doing some content on the television also, and we are aggressively pursuing it with various channels as and when something formalizes. We'll keep our audience posted.”
