Mohit Kapoor on body shaming: I respect everyone's individuality as we all are God's creation and God never creates anything ugly
Body shaming is a reality. Not only the female gender, even their counterparts deal with it. Some people often pass not only comments but even start giving free advice and tips. Fashion Director and Producer Mohit Kapoor speaks on the issue.
“It’s not good to body shame. I am totally against it and I do not support devaluing any individual based on their body shape, size or skin colour. I respect everyone's individuality as we all are God's creation and God never creates anything ugly,” he says.
We as a society and nation unavoidably judge people by their looks. Even darker boys and girls are stared at and commented upon in schools, colleges, offices and even in the entertainment industry.
“I have personally experienced it in the past where I used to be so thin. I felt so lonely at that moment. I still remember I used to get scared going out of the house. I don't want anyone to go through this phase just like I did. People take it so casually and make fun of it, but honestly, the person suffers,” he shares his experience.
He explains further, “We do need to understand that our skin colour and body type is given to us by God for our good, so it's natural. Knowing this we should behave like human beings and treat others as humans too. Any sensible person understands the importance of appreciating someone and not disrespecting them for their flaws or insecurities. As human beings, it's our responsibility to stop body shaming, as it's no longer a joke, it leads to losing self-confidence.”
The solution to this, according to Mohit, is “awareness campaigns, where the right message should be driven home”. The aim should be to make “people understand the facts and teach them to behave decently and treat everyone equally”.
