Mission Raniganj follows Additional Chief Mining Engineer Jaswant Singh Gill (Akshay Kumar) and his crew as they rescue 65 mine workers from a flooded coal mine in Raniganj, West Bengal, in 1989. It is the story of a braveheart who saves the miners when practically everyone has given up hope for their safety. Throughout the three days of the rescue effort, Gill and his crew confront several problems and obstacles, but they finally succeed in their mission, making it one of the country's greatest and grittiest rescue missions.
Mission Raniganj is an engaging and exhilarating thriller that will have you on the edge of your seat. At just over 2 hours, the biopic-drama is a very smooth sail. The film is filled with emotions, and towards the conclusion, one is bound to feel goosebumps down their spine. The story of the film is amazing. Within the first few minutes, it establishes the tone without delving into political, religious, or over-the-top emotional territory. It's a story of teamwork and perseverance.
Jaswant Singh Gill, played by Akshay Kumar, is a reliable character. He gives a nice effort but truly excels in the final 30 minutes. Parineeti Chopra has a little role in the film, but she steals the show anytime she appears. The film's cinematography deserves special recognition. There are several stunningly filmed sequences, such as the trapped miners and underwater shots. The lighting, camera work, and special effects are all excellent.
Mission Raniganj should be at the top of everyone's must-see list. It is among the best films starring Akshay Kumar in recent times and warrants a theatre watch. Strongly recommended.
