Gufi Paintal, Shakuni Mama from Mahabharat, passes away at 79 after being hospitalised

Gufi Paintal, a seasoned actress who played Shakuni Mama in BR Chopra's Mahabharat, has passed away. He died on Monday in Mumbai as a result of health problems brought on by ageing. He was 79. According to reports, the actor was brought to the hospital on May 31 after experiencing long-term illness. He was reportedly hospitalised for heart and kidney-related issues when allegations of his health being critical first arose a few days ago.

Gufi Paintal breathed his last on Monday, and his family issued a statement that said, “With profound grief we announce the sad demise of our father Mr Gufi Paintal (Shakuni Mama). He passed away peacefully this morning surrounded by family." According to Hiten Paintal, Gufi Paintal passed away this morning at 9 a.m., according to Indian Express. “He had a heart failure. He was 79 years old,” he said.

With the 1975 movie Rafoo Chakkar, Gufi Paintal made his acting debut in the character of Salim. Rishi Kapoor, Neetu Kapoor, Asrani, and other actors were in the movie. Other films with which he has acted include Des Pardes, Dillagi, Daava, Suhaag, and others. Over the years, he appeared as a lead in several TV series and films. While he was most popularly known for his role in BR Chopra’s Mahabharat, he also worked in other TV shows such as Kanoon, Sauda, Akbar Birbal, Om Namah Shivay, Mrs. Kaushik ki Paanch Bahuein, Karn Sanghini. His final appearance was in Jai Kanhaiya Lal Ki.

Gufi Paintal, in addition to being a gifted performer, has also directed a few television programmes and the film Shri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu.
